Data Recovery Questions

Everything you need to know about device repairs.

Which consoles do you repair?

We repair all major gaming platforms at our Guildford and Bedford stores: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch (standard, OLED, and Lite), and Steam Deck. We handle everything from simple port replacements to complex motherboard diagnostics and chip-level repairs.

Screen replacements and port repairs typically take 2–3 hours when parts are available. Disc drive issues usually need 1–2 days. Motherboard-level repairs take 2–5 days for thorough testing and micro-soldering. We recommend booking ahead so we can order your specific parts for faster service.

We never intentionally delete data during hardware repairs. However, certain motherboard repairs may require storage formatting — we always inform you upfront if there’s any risk. We strongly recommend backing up saves to cloud storage (PlayStation Plus, Xbox Cloud, Nintendo Switch Online) before bringing in your console.

Yes — this is one of our most common repairs. For PS5 and Xbox Series consoles, we disassemble and deep clean internal dust buildup, replace dried thermal paste on the APU, and test cooling fan functionality. Nintendo Switch overheating often requires fan replacement or thermal pad renewal. Most cooling repairs take 2–4 hours.

We source genuine manufacturer parts whenever available — for Nintendo Switch screens, PS5 disc drives, and Xbox components. For parts without official availability, we use premium aftermarket alternatives that meet or exceed original specifications. You always approve parts before we proceed.

We don’t repair controllers — and here’s why: the cost of diagnosing and repairing a controller often exceeds buying a new one. Stick drift on a DualSense or Xbox controller typically costs £40–60 in labour and parts, while a new controller costs £50–70. We recommend purchasing a genuine replacement from a reputable retailer.

Yes — we accept mail-in repairs from anywhere in the UK. Package your console securely with padding, include the power cable, and send via tracked insured shipping to any of our store addresses. We recommend insurance cover for high-value consoles like PS5. Most repairs are completed within 3–5 working days for postal customers.

All console repairs include a 6–12 month warranty depending on the repair type and parts used. If the repaired component fails due to our workmanship or a defective part, we’ll fix it again completely free of charge. The warranty doesn’t cover new physical damage, liquid spills after repair, or unrelated issues.
